Methylcobalamin is the purest and most potent form of vitamin B12
Vitamin B12, known as cobalamin, is commonly available in two forms: Methylcobalamin and Cyanocobalamin.
Proper absorption of vitamin B12 requires normal function of the digestive system, specifically the stomach, pancreas, and small intestine. B12 is typically available as an oral B12 supplement or as a vitamin B12 injection. Because of poor absorption into the body, Vitamin B12 injections are by far the most effective method for supplementation. Whether in the form of a B12 tablet, capsule or as Vitamin B12 shot, it has the most complex chemical structure of all the B12 shots. Methylcobalamin is the form of vitamin B12 used in the human body, whereas Cyanocobalamin is the most prevalent form used as a nutritional supplement. In order for Cyanocobalamin to be utilized by the body it must first be converted to Methylcobalamin and 5-deoxyadenosy. Because Cyanocobalamin requires the secondary step of being converted to Methylcobalamin in the body, it is the least efficient means to cure the body of a Vitamin B deficiency.Methylcobalamin is the only form of b12 injection that is naturally supported by the human body without having to go through an unnecessary chemical breakdown. According to studies, Vitamin B12 deficiency affects at least 10% of individuals over age 60. According to the Linus Pauling Institute, the most common forms for Vitamin B12 deficiency are autoimmune conditions and food-bound vitamin B12 malabsorption. Both causes, though separate, become more prevalent with age.
